Good piece, in two parts, by Michael Hoexter regarding the possibility of an alliance between the left-neoclassicals and the Post Keynesians (see here and here), in providing a common front against the austerity nonsense given center stage by the media and mainstream right-wing economists. I agree with the points he makes regarding the left-neoclassicals inability, or more appropriately unwillingness, to concede important points of theory and fact to the Post Keynesians (including the MMT school which I see as falling within that broader rubric). I’m just not sure that an alliance is possible. Perhaps, but it would require overcoming some of the issues I’ve brought up in a previous post in addition to some of the more practical issues of power and prestige which he does a good job of drawing attention to.
